Bathroom Update

Monday, January 6, 2014

Two months ago (or more, who's counting) I posted pictures of our kids' bathroom, here, and said I was going to be doing a bit of a makeover.

Well I have started!

I hung curtains on either side of the tub

Not much now, but even so, they've made a big visual impact from this before pic:

I am planning to paint them with yellow chevron stripes, and move them further up the ceiling. Right now they are knotted to keep them from hanging on the floor and serving as a mop. I think I'll put some sort of hooks on the wall to pin them back while the little waterspouts are in the tub.

I put in a new mirror and it made ALL the difference

Compared to this before:

I even tidied up the closet

But really, anyone with lots of small children know that something can be absolutely immaculate one morning, and look like no one has cleaned in 3 months by that afternoon. That's basically what happens with that bathroom closet. I just wanted to throw it in because I'm hoping to label and organize a bit better, so it won't just look nicer but will hopefully stay that way for a little bit longer.

So that's it for now. I got a shelf with a terrarium, too. That will be going on the wall behind/above the toilet. I also have really wanted to hang something in that window, but I'm just not sure what yet.

Hopefully this really will be finished up soon, and I'll be posting the official before and afters!

I'll also promise to take semi-decent pictures. Like ones where there is actually light outside. Sorry!

And one last thing I just have to share... An awesome find I scored at a local antique shop! I took the pictures tonight just to have something up on the blog, so they also aren't the greatest, but you can at least get the gist.

I scored this awesome trunk for just a whopping $29!

It's so hard to see, I know! Sorry!

It still has some of the travel tickets stuck on it. They're all ripped, but I've been trying to sort of decipher what they say.

This is my favorite scene (aside from my children sleeping) each night in my house

So cozy, so comfy.

And speaking of which, I am really trying to work on getting more rest. So I am going to wrap it up.

Hope everyone finds themselves somewhere cozy and comfy while these tundra temps reach across the US!

Happy 2014!

It's a new year. We still don't have flying cars, but the world, she is a-changin'.

This last year I felt like social media was on a bigger platform than ever. The Internet, that at one time really struck fear into people, and for good reason, and seemed to not-so-secretly hide a cesspool of evil is balancing out. People are using the electronic terminals to spread love, inspiration, understanding, peace and acceptance.

This is a really great thing. The things the Internet was once known for are of course still there, but there's a bit more of a karmic balance now.

There are things like this cropping up all over:

The person who took this photo is married to my husband's cousin. That's about as much credit as I can give without linking to her private Facebook account. I don't think she'll mind though. And the guy holding the sign? I think this was his point. That his message would not only be seen on that street corner, but be sent out into the ether and maybe, just maybe, have an effect on someone.

Ok, so where are you going with this, Amy?

Sorry, I'm getting there.

My point is this: Social media is revolutionary, but we're still in this weird state where we haven't quite figured out the social aspect to it beyond 'likes' and double taps. People don't call, they text. People don't have dinner without their phone glued to their hand or right next to their plate so they don't miss anything. Moms sit on the playground while their children play, their phone glued to their face. Me included.

And this is where this is really going...

This is my New Years Resolution.

Not an "I'm going to wake up tomorrow and be different" resolution, but small ideas and changes that lead to a bigger picture. It's like a slippery slope, and I'm turning around going back up the hill.

My resolution isn't to "spend less time on my phone and computer" exclusively though.

It is to live more intentionally in all areas. To pay attention to what is actually happening in the flesh, right in front of me. To finish one activity before rushing to the next, then the next, and then at the end of the day realizing I have accomplished 1/20th of each "To Do" on my list, and not able to cross a single thing off.

Being more intentional is going to look a lot like organizing and scheduling, so that "stuff" doesn't clutter my head while we read books and sing songs and I'm not constantly saying, "Ok, hold on, I still need to do the dishes first".

Or it might look like turning off my phone and computer at night after 9pm every night, so that once the kids are finally asleep, my husband and I are not sitting next to each other in bed, he watching YouTube videos, and I perusing Pinterest, 18 inches but worlds apart.

It's about choosing my words and my tone wisely before, "WHY do you keep spilling EVERYTHING?!?!" comes flying out of my mouth... again.

It's about really paying attention to the way I feed my family. And I'm not just talking about food.

So yes, I could write out a whole list...

1.Less "logged in" time
2.Less yelling
3.Healthier foods

But I really just like summing it all up in one word...

Intentional

That's the theme for 2014. And by being more intentional, I hope to spread that same love, inspiration, positivity and acceptance in a human to human way, and not in a 'AMYBABY6 liked your photo' kind of way.

Well, that was a sort of long, unorganized ramble... so I'll leave you with this, a video I took last night of the girls during our New Years "party"

There isn't a whole lot because I was already starting my New Years Resolution by being busy with them in the moment instead of my camera lens taking my place. This was also the first time I had ever taken a video with my camera and I really sucked at it. I sucked even more with the editing, so my apologies in advance.

Also, I picked a rather inappropriate song to put in the background considering the content, but it's kind of my favorite right now, so I'm just going to blame Miley Cyrus and call it a day.

Happy New Year y'all!
