May Designs Planners

Friday, December 20, 2013

Since I totally missed the boat for Christmas gift idea lists and the like, I decided I'd post something about the next coming holiday... The New Year.

I know, I know. Christmas isn't even here yet. But it's fast approaching, and one thing I like to do every year between Christmas and the new year is update my calendars.

Over the last few years my calendars have evolved. In the beginning I always had a wall calendar, usually one with pigs, because I love pigs. And that's where I wrote the few things I had to do in a month.

As things became a bit more hectic keeping schedules for multiple people, I switched to a desk calendar. This also allowed me to write down and record bills paid each month and have a 'quick look' type feature in my own handwriting.

That has now given way to excel spreadsheets for our bills, expenses, investments etc, and a personal planner that I can keep with me in my purse anywhere I go so I can pull it out on the fly and know when and where I've got something going on.

So I was absolutely delighted to come across these new May Designs personal planners and notebooks that are super customizable.

They were cute and trendy, and after an appearance on Good Morning America I think it was, on Thanksgiving day, they ran a 50% off code, so I had to check them out.

I'm scrolling through the options, and it's ikat design after chevron, which is great, but nothing was jumping out at me. Not until I saw this...

I mean really, nothing quite screams "Amy" like pink and dinosaurs and stars. I was sold right there. But the possibilities were seemingly endless. From the print of your book, to the shape, style, and font of your name or monogram, to whether you want the book to be a planner, a food journal, or just a doodle book. It's seriously awesome.

Hell yeah, it is!

By the way, this is what my children were doing while I snapped these few photos.

All of those bags of sand ended up getting dumped into that box, and then she wanted to "help" mommy by clearing off the island when they were done and all of said sand went all. over. the. floor. It was really an outside activity but we've got some gale force winds going on here right now, so that wasn't really an option. It's cool though, when I feel the sand sticking to my feet for the next three weeks, I'll just close my eyes and pretend I'm on the beach in Bora Bora.

Ok, but back to the planner...

They have full month views

Plus weekly breakdowns for more detailed notes

I keep all of my contact information in my phone and sync it to our iCloud, so although that's not a part of the planner that didn't really bother me.

I just feel there's something so cathartic about writing it all down.

And last, but not least, if you are anything like me and make the same damn new years resolutions year after year and never keep them, you can save yourself an extra step and just go ahead and write them in here at the end...

The only draw back I see so far is that the cover is a bit flimsy for the amount of abuse I rain down on it, so it would be nice if they sold a thicker plastic cover as an option. But other than that, I'm super stoked about my new pink dino planner.

Check them out here: MayDesigns.com

And be prepared for 2014 baby!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

**I am in no way, shape or form affiliated with May Designs. I just really like pink and dinosaurs and attempting to be organized.

Where the HELL I've been

Sunday, December 15, 2013

Oh man...

So I'll spare all the nitty gritty details, but it goes something like sick baby, sick me, sick baby health scare, holidays, husband loses job, holidays, responsibilities, the end.

And to think I created this blog in February, but held off until things "settled down". Pfff, some timing!

And for any worry, Owen is now fine and gaining weight. We are armed with Epi-pens and blood test results, and all will be right with the world if these damn molars would hurry up and cut through the gums. I see you molars! I can see you taunting me under there, just man up and show yourselves!

Casey now has a new job, which has also brought it's own headaches, but we have much to be thankful for.

And the holidays? Well, I take a deep breath in every five minutes daily, and tell myself this is a time to be joyful, a time to celebrate and enjoy and be grateful. Working on that.

I seriously had visions of fun crafts and advent calendar ideas, gift idea posts, fun holiday outfits, cold weather flower planting, and house decor updates. There's still time for some of that, so we'll see!

***********************************************************************************

We decided on a whim one afternoon to attempt a family picture with all of us present (it's previously just been the kids) by ourselves, armed with nothing but a tripod, a camera remote control, and a Barbie duct taped to the front so I could yell, "Look at the Barbie!!!" before Casey hit the button.

Here is the good, the bad, and the poorly edited:

I title this one: What did you just get on my brand new white sweater?! Alternately titled: My sweet biggest angel and her big grin.

Hammocks & Fall

Sunday, October 20, 2013

We've been having some beautiful weather lately. Chilly mornings in the 50's, low 70's afternoons, and high 60's evenings. Absolute perfection for playing outside, and play we have.

Favorite Fall Sweater

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

There is a cold front moving this way and I am so incredibly excited. We had one move through not too long ago, but it didn't take long before we were back in the 90's. So this morning I'm going through all my fun fall stuff I have bought recently, and I really wanted to share this sweater because I just love it. It's fun, a little funky, and so comfy.

 photo 028-2_zps6852d9b9.jpg

I should have been, oh I dunno, working on the bathroom I said was going to be finished in 1-2 weeks a month ago, but I like to make good use of nap time doing important things, like taking pictures of myself in a sweater with a fox wearing glasses

 photo 084-2_zps21bc85eb.jpg

 photo 123-2_zps6a16865f.jpg

And that cold front moving in? Well, it's really windy here right now and one second the sun is out shining beautifully and the next it's really dark and overcast looking like it's going to pour at any second. That made it a little tricky to find good lighting to take pictures, especially when you're not so skilled with the camera contraption anyway, you have no remote to take pictures and you are relying on a time delay and continuous shooting mode. I got frustrated, so this happened...

 photo 133-2_zpsc65a0439.jpg

It speaks volumes of my photography that the best lighting is in these photos

Channeling my inner World War Z walker. I can make a noise that sounds just like them in the movie. Ok maybe not just like them, but it's enough to drive my husband nuts so it's still fun

You can get the sweater here at Old Navy

And the jeans I bought years ago at Charlotte Russe, but you can find something similar here

Now c'monnnn cold weather!

This Weekend

Monday, October 14, 2013

This weekend we had a very simple and sort of impromptu birthday party for our soon-to-be 1 year old birthday boy

 photo 038-2_zps865f1dbc.jpg

The morning was a bit crazy, so by the time my husband's parents got here, I was just happy the cake was actually baked

It was raining which was great because we definitely needed it, but that also meant it was really dark out and our old light fixtures just don't cast the light I need them to, so suffice to say, these aren't the greatest pictures ever taken

And Grand Daddy

 photo 008-2_zps8ab49064.jpg

He's walking!!!! It's those so sweet drunken sailor, kind of off to the right, then to the left, then down on your butt kind of steps, but he can make it across the room and even stand up on his own without holding on to anything now. I give him two weeks tops and he'll be running

 photo 020-2_zps07a73014.jpg

And I'm sorry, but these pictures of my baby boy looking up at his Daddy and Grand Daddy just make my heart swoon

His birthday is still not for a little bit longer, but we wanted to celebrate with his grandparents while we had the chance. My goal is to have his high chair finished in time so I can take some more official 1st birthday photos

Oh sweet boy, you are so very very loved

I'll be back more this week with some backyard mamarazzi shots
